Back to events pageThis year the theme was 'Thanks for the Memory' and is 'The Music of the '40s' performed by the renowned 'Swing Unlimited Big Band' in the style of Glen Miller. We were supported with guest singers and dancers in period costume performing all those popular songs of the era as well as dancing the Jitterbug, Lindy Hop and even the Jive!
The picnic, held in the beautiful Hillier Gardens every year, is a major fund-raising event for our Rotary charities. It grows each year and the audience is encouraged to join in the atmosphere by wearing period dress, and this, along with the array of period Military vehicles in attendance makes for a really memorable, nostalgic and exciting evening. Inevitably the mood took over and the audience can be seen on their feet dancing the evening away on the lawn in front of the band as the evening draws to a close.

We always enojoy this event, and this year was no exception. Proceeds are split equally between a charity of our choice and The Salvation Army.
After a moving and interesting presentation by a representative of the Children's Liver Disease Foundation, we decided to support this charity with the money raised from the concert this year. The Salvation Army chose to donate their half to Lupus UK, which helps and supports sufferers of the disease.
After a day of of carol singing, acting, and dancing by members of The Salvation Army, the very generous support of the audience at the two performances enabled us to present both cahrities with a cheque for around £1,500.
Thanks go to all of those involved, and we look forward to the same again next year!
